I paid £27 per person for a “guided tour”, which was nothing more than being taken into the globe and talked at for 20 minutes.
Was the building impressive? Yes. But it’s younger than i am, so it’s not like my ticket price was going toward conservation.
We were herded up some stairs, stood outside for a bit while they fixed some headset issue, and then taken inside. The guide was chatty and friendly, but as performers were rehearsing we had to be very quiet and were not allowed to take pictures.
Once that was over, we were taken outside and told “that’s it”. But we could go through the exhibition if we wanted. I did, it was slightly more interesting but didn’t mollify me.
Advice: don’t do the guided tour, go see a performance. With your performance ticket, you can still do the exhibition, and you also get to see a performance…
Also, I think it’s worth knowing that the original globe burned down and was rebuilt. That was then demolished by Puritans, and then 400 years later we have a new building, on a different plot of land.
