Accompanied by our guide the day starts by leaving behind the Thermaic Gulf, passing by the two lakes Koronia and Volvi ,wetlands of international importance. Our first point of archaeological interest is the Acropolis of Ancient Stagira, the birthplace of the philosopher Aristoteles, teacher of Alexander the Great. After the guided tour we head to the port of Ouranoupolis. From this seaport, we will go on with our journey, sailing towards the south of the Athos Peninsula, You will be able to see from a close distance (from the boat), the mysterious and miraculous place which has been for centuries the center of Orthodoxy and you will find out new information about the history of Mount Athos and 8 of its monasteries. After our return to the port you will have free time for lunch or swimming in Ouranoupolis while we will enjoy the amazing view towards Singitic Gulf, Athos and Sithonia Peninsulas..

It was early season. We booked in advance of our travels. Due to flight issues we could not make trip. We could not reach anyone at the service. So they charged us anyway. Then we received an email saying they cancelled the trip due to not enough guest. We were up set that we had to pay but no buddy else did.

We hadden een reservering richting Klooster met Athos Sea Cruises. Helaas werd i.v.m. de Coronasituatie onze vlucht naar Griekenland gecancelled. Na onze boeking kreeg ik een verzoek om Athos Cruises te beoordelen. Ik stuurde een mail met de vraag hoe ik een beoordeling moet geven als ik geen gebruik van de cruisetickets heb kunnen maken. Athos Cruises werkte volledig mee aan de terugbetaling van onze tickets ondanks het hun schuld niet was. Zeer tevreden over dit bedrijf en klantenservice! Topklasse!

Mount Athos is a place off limit to women so it was to me all the more fascinating. Although it was rainy the day we went, it was a fantastic experience to see the monasteries, though from afar. But it may not be for everyone. You have to understand the history & culture of the place to appreciate its authenticity. All in all, for me it was a great day excursion from Thessaloniki. One interesting fact - I got the most “likes” on Instagram that I’ve ever had, with pictures of the Mt Athos monasteries!
