Circling back to TripAdvisor where i had first come across TheUnexplored and Rajeev...
Our package was planned after multiple discussions with Rajeev who ensured to hear our expectations of Meghalaya and pick spots accordingly. He was very flexible with the places to be visited and also ensured we got flight tickets in very very reasonable rates, as promised.
Meghalaya during February is not lush green, however the water bodies were stunning, the people as well. Despite being an off season we were mesmerised by the lovely state. Apart from Kerala we haven't been to places where nature is so well respected and maintained.
We started off from Guwahati airport where our polite and wonderful driver Abhishek areived. He took us to Kamakhya Temple, then we headed towards Umiam lake in shillong. The night was chilly ..went down to a good 6 degrees by the night. I was practically in covers and would've preferred to cuddle the heater than my girlfriend.. Being from Mumbai didn't help !
Next morning was a trip to Laitlum village on a mountain top, where we saw long brown pastures meeting the blue sky. A small trek down the mountain and up again followed by snacking on some delicious chicken momo and bhutta (corn). Next stop was Krangsuri falls where we were absolutely stunned by the still and clean water which was greenish blue.
From here we headed to Shnongpdeng village, right on the banks of river Umngot. This river flows through India-Bangladesh and we camped the night on the banks of this river. The camps were solid and we were entertained with a bonfire as well.
The beauty of the river came alive right after sunrise, where the blue of the sky met the lush green mountain top between which the aquamarine green water flew. We clicked some photos on the suspension bridge post which boating option was provided (unmissable). After breakfast we headed to Dawki where we saw the Umngot river flowing into Bangladesh and the border where our some of our Jawans were hurling water and sand at the locals who would try to come very close to the Indian border. Felt funny how it was the same land, water and an imaginary line divided us from the other country. The locals from Bangladesh were noisy (in a good way) where they were excited to see the Indian border, the Indians and probably wanted to hop over the line.
The day ended with visiting the single root bridge in Mawlynnong. The bridge was beautiful however a crowd gathered by the time we reached there and couldn't get the pictures we hoped to get. In Meghalaya if you want to see anything beautiful, one has to trek a bit. This was no trek however there were water, maggi and fruits stalls to boost any tired soul.
We visited the cleanest village in Mawlynnong the same day as the root bridge, post which our stay was in Shaiti homestay. We were greeted by a cute uncle and aunty who made our stay extremely warm that night.
We left the next day morning for the bamboo trek of Meghalaya in Mawryngkhang...the trek, though people hype it upto be scary, is not very scary. We climb a mountain from its sides just on bamboo. The structure is very solid and sturdy. However, if someone has vertigo issues, beware. I had a good time climbing it. Our entire day went at this trek and we returned to our hotel stay in Cafe Cherapunjee. Lovely surrounding to the cafe/hotel...decent and clean rooms. Wish they had big sized Radiators just like in Shaiti homestay, Mawlynnong.
The next day was a trip to Wei sawdong falls ..a small trek to the falls. Absolutely worth it. Many locals and college kids were seen around at this place..which made the place more vibrant. The water here was again absolute clear and had the aquamarine glow to it. The day ended in Sohra with a visit to Mawsmai caves, which was a quick tour and we got some time to buy souvenirs.
The following day we had a massive trek to Double root bridge, beyond which was the blue lagoon and then the rainbow falls. It's not a trek for the faint hearted. Trek to double root bridge is 3kms and another 2.8 kms to rainbow falls. And then come all the way back. Preferably start the trek early..7 or 8 AM . I trekked only uptil double root bridge..starting at 9 AM and returning by 1 PM.
The next day was a sad trip back to Guwahati for our flight, where Rajeev spent some time with us before we reached the airport. Rajeev always had an anecdote or two related to the places we went and thus always had an interesting conversation with him.
Special thanks to Manisha as well who was prompt to respond to our queries and always checked uon us during the trip.
Thank you so much to the UnExplored team. See you next time when we come to the NE ❤️✨

You know when you plan trips, the dream is to click a button which magically books the best hotels, takes you to the most interesting places and showers you with hospitality.
I came across unexplored through Gsearch and got in touch with Rajeev for a Meghalaya trip. He briefed me about the itinerary and finished all his inputs along with a detailed itinerary in a day. He waited patiently for my revert for almost 10 days and within a day of my confirmation, he had all the confirmation of the hotels for a 1 week stay and also helped me book flight tickers cheaper than what I was getting on the travel websites.
When we were on the trip (and let me tell you the place is truly magical) I had to call him only twice, once during arrival to confirm the same and the 2nd during departure to convey my heartful love and appreciation for the way he arranged everything. Nowhere I had to call him for any issues, instead he was the one motivating us to move around more.
Even I don't have the expectations of such a service/support. In this age of connectivity when things happen over a click of a button, the travel industry still requires a lot of planning, but Rajeev and his team from The Unexplored are the closest you can get to the "Click and forget button" and the best part is you will experience a hell of a 5 star service and an unforgettable trip.
Now all my North East trips in the future will be always intertwined with The Unexplored. The only downside was we couldn't meet Rajeev, but honestly that’s just one more excuse for us to go back to this magical place with these magical people. Kudos to Rajeev and team.
I am pretty sure these guys will be one of THE Big Tour companies in the future as they really crave for customer experience than profit, because they have experienced some alluring magic in NE States and they want their customers to experience the same.
