A day of two perfect halves!
Firstly I want to say thank you to Leopold, our knowledgeable and hugely entertaining guide. It felt like a private tour as there were only 6 of us in total! Leo, or the Old fox ????, lead us to Berchtesgaden Salt Mine via a superb stop to view Kehlsteinhaus, high above Berchtesgaden. The visit to the Salt mine was both interesting and enjoyable. The visit consisted of a weird train-like ride into the mine, two crazy slides to reach further into the depth of the Alps and a magical boat ride as well as lots of information on the workings of the mine over the past 500 years. We also got to spend an hour in Berchtesgaden which was my husband’s idea of heaven as he has researched lots of the history of this town. We thoroughly enjoyed our morning and would definitely recommend a visit.
After a brief pit stop, we then headed on the second part of our day- the Sound of Music tour. The coach was full and the atmosphere was amazing- genuine excitement and love for the Sound of Music. I felt quite emotional as the bus set off and I have to say the tour far exceeded my expectations. Mitch was our guide for this tour and he had a genuine charisma and shared his excellent knowledge with confidence and humour. It was interesting to learn not only of the history of the Sound of Music film but also the real life events of Maria Von Trapp. I loved all the stops- and it was planned to perfection. As we travelled out to the countryside, and with the soundtrack playing in synch, my smile widened and my heart was singing!!! Thank you Mitch and not forgetting Mickey, ( you’re so fine! ????) for a magical afternoon.
The tour is not cheap but it was worth every penny!
