How do locals eat? On this food tour we’ll visit one of Guatemala’s biggest markets to taste some of our famous local “Antojitos” and see the variety and colors of fruits and vegetables on market days. Then a hands on experience of making your own criollo corn tortillas with a delicious traditional lunch.

My husband and I did a food/market tour with Kukul Tales and they do an incredible tour on Guatemalan gastronomy. As a Guatemalan, I was so honored to learn about the roots of our food from Rebecca, an amazing Guatemalan chef and entrepreneur. We visited the local market and learned about the history of each food we tried. We ended the day having lunch at El Comalote, a restaurant that promotes the importance of protecting the native corn of Guatemala. The food was just amazing (see my photos).

We loved our host! Emily is knowledgeable about the area it's history and the food. She had fabulous stops throughout the market to prepare local food and taste samples. Sandra took photos of us along the way so we could remember our trip. We finished in a restaurant having an authentic Guatemalan lunch experience.

Rebeca and Kukul Tales offer incredible culinary experiences. My group and I made a classic Mayan pepian and jocon with ingredients we picked up in the market. The food was delicious and I highly recommend Kukul Tales to anyone remotely interested in food and culinary techniques.
