The Tholos of Delphi, Delphi, Greece The Tholos of Delphi is among the ancient structures of the Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia in Delphi. The circular temple, a tholos, shares the immediate site with other ancient foundations of the Temple of Athena Pronaia, all located less than a mile east of the main ruins at Delphi, in the modern Greek regional unit of Phocis. The tholos is part of the Delphi UNESCO World Heritage Site. 30 minutes
Delphi Archaeological Museum, Delphi, Greece Delphi Archaeological Museum is one of the principal museums of Greece and one of the most visited. It is operated by the Greek Ministry of Culture. Founded in 1903, it has been rearranged several times and houses the discoveries made at the Panhellenic sanctuary of Delphi, which dates from the Late Helladic (Mycenean) period to the early Byzantine era. Organized in fourteen rooms on two levels, the museum mainly displays statues, including the famous Charioteer of Delphi, architectural elements, like the frieze of the Siphnian Treasury, and ex-votos dedicated to the sanctuary of Pythian Apollo, like the Sphinx of Naxos. 60 minutes
Delphi, Delphi, Greece Visit Delphi archeological site, a UNESCO-recognized archeological site that’s among Greece’s most iconic places. In ancient times was a sacred precinct that served as the seat of Pythia, the major oracle who was consulted about important decisions throughout the ancient classical world.
The Temple of Apollo, god of music, harmony, light, healing, and oracles occupied the most important and prominent position in the Delphic Panhellenic Sanctuary. The edifice with the partially restored colonnade visible today dates to the 4th century BC; it is the third temple built at the same place. The famous oracle, the Pythia, operated inside the temple, the location chosen, according to one tradition, due to a sacred chasm beneath the site emitting vapors, which were inhaled by the Pythia. Some ancient writers state that the Pythia then entered a state of delirium and uttering inarticulate cries, which were then turned into equivocal oracles by the priests 60 minutes

Alex, our driver, picked us up at our Airbnb apartment (near the Acropolis) and he was prompt. He gave everyone water bottles and we set out for Delphi. It was about a 2 hour drive, during which he gave us facts about the areas we were passing and then told us the history of the Oracle of Delphi.
Our first stop was at the Tholos of Athena, where he dropped us off to explore. It was raining and he offered us a large umbrella to use. (Note - it is a very steep decline which leads to a steep uphill climb back up!)
Our next stop was at the Delphi archeological site and museum. Alex asked us which we preferred first because of the rain, and we agreed with him that we should do the museum first with the hopes that the rain would let up later for the outside part. He was right! We toured the museum while it was raining outside. After the museum, we proceeded outside to the archeological site. (Note - it is also a steep uphill climb). Alex told us he’d meet us at the exit 2 hours after drop off, but we could take as long as we wanted/needed. We exited the archeological site around 2 hours after drop off and he was right there waiting for us!
After that, Alex drove us to a restaurant in Delphi where he had made a lunch reservation for us. He requested a table next to a window that had the most spectacular view! And the food was delicious, as well!
After lunch, we started to head back to Athens. We stopped for a brief time in Arachova to walk around a bit and window shop. At the end, my daughter needed a restroom and when we asked Alex about it, he took her to a cafe and bought himself a coffee so she could use the bathroom.
After Arachova, we made a quick stop at a scenic lookout which was spectacular. Alex took some pictures of our whole family for us.
We then hopped back in the van and headed back to Athens - about 2 hours for the return.
We were extremely happy with Alex and would highly recommend this tour!
