Pyramids of Giza, Giza, Egypt One of the most mysterious Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (and the only one still standing), the Pyramids of Giza—the Great Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Khafre, and Pyramid of Menkaure—still live up to more than 4,000 years of hype. Seeing these 4th-dynasty pyramids and their guardian Great Sphinx rising from the Giza Plateau is a must on any trip to Cairo (and the reason many travelers find themselves in Egypt).
120 minutes
The Museum of Egyptian Antiquities, Cairo, Egypt A centerpiece of Tahrir Square, the Egyptian Museum (Museum of Egyptian Antiquities) has been a mecca for Egyptologists since it opened and houses some of the world’s greatest ancient relics. While some collections are moving to the new Grand Egyptian Museum, it remains a must-see for anyone interested in ancient Egypt.

Egypt Papyrus Museum, Giza, Egypt Papyrus is an important part of Egypt’s history. The raw material used to make this ancient paper comes from the stalk of the Cyperus papyrus plant, which has a brittle interior and a tough exterior and grows in damp regions of the Nile Delta. Its method of production was a well-kept secret for many years, allowing the ancient Egyptians to have a monopoly over its production and distribution. The Papyrus Institute is a government-approved museum and shop not far from the Pyramids in Giza, where visitors can browse and buy a huge selection of hand-painted papyrus prints. Prices range from the cheap to the very expensive, but bear in mind that these prints are the authentic article and make for some quality souvenirs.Staff at the Papyrus Institute talk visitors through the entire process of manufacturing papyrus, including a demonstration of exactly how it is made.
60 minutes
Great Sphinx, Giza, Egypt The 66-foot-tall (20-meter-tall) Sphinx of Giza is an icon of ancient Egypt, and the subject of continued debate regarding its meaning, age, and original builder. With the head of a human and the body of a lion, the Sphinx—one of the world’s largest and oldest statues—is said to symbolize strength, power, and wisdom.

The pros of the trip:
Cairo was amazing and the tour company let us have an hour free time at both the Pyramids and the Sphinx.
The English speaking tour guide was amazingly informed- you could tell he really had a passion for the subject and it was such a pleasure listening to him talk passionately about the city of Cairo and the history of the Egyptians.
The Nile tour was amazing- the food was also delicious, as a vegetarian though the food was limited but that is to be expected and I was fine with this.
The cons:
Some of the staff members were extremely rude and condescending- we were being told conflicting information about where each group is meant to stand depending on the language of the tour guide and one of the staff members made a really rude, childish gesture and comment as if we are children even though we were being told conflicting information. The same individual was also not presentable at all for the tour and had extremely poor hygiene, which for a 14+ hour round trip was not pleasant- he really took this tour experience down as he just seemed extremely arrogant and not professional in the slightest.
We also got picked up half an hour late which was not ideal as we were standing outside a busy road with cash alone.
