An incredible experience given it's largely unspoilt presentation - you walk the tour rather than sit on a train. HOWEVER, be aware although many of the pathways are laid concrete, there are still a lot of steps to negotiate, so anybody with mobility issues will struggle, which is when Postojna wins.
No photos can be taken (stated reason is to prevent algae growth from artificial light, but I believe it is to keep the groups moving and not have selfie-traffic jams!).
Amazing to see the original steps and walkways carved out of the cave walls 100 years ago. Just imagining what those early explorer/tourists could see back then was mind-blowing.
Advised to arrive early before scheduled tour start, but many still turned up after kick-off and were able to join OK. Groups are split into smaller Slovenian, Italian & English speaking groups (maybe more in high season).
At the end of the cave tour, you can witness the chaos picture taking has on the cohesion of the groups! Souvenir shop has some really good guide books with stunning photos for €5 in many languages, so no need to fret on missing those pics.
Fantastic day out, tour lasts approx 90 mins and tour guide is happy to take numerous questions at the many narrative points. Total underground distance is about 2km and at no time was it claustrophobic as ceilings and walkways are tall and wide. Smallest is 100m section at start.
Even in winter, temp was about 10C; you will get dripped on, but not soaked, so waterproofs not necessary, but good footwear is! Enjoy, best €16 ever spent!
