We have a great day in Cairo. Picked up from hotel very early (at around 5 am) and taken to airport by private transfer. Then flown with EgyptAir to Cairo where our private guide Mohamed was waiting. He did an excellent history explanation in the way to the Museum which was great to get everyone into context. The museum was still the old one as the new museum have not been inaugurated. Mohamed took us around the museum to see some of the key pieces which was really good to have explanations of what we were seeing, this worked great for us as we were with children (you might need to ask if you want more time to explore at your own leisure). We did a Felucca boat short trip in the Nile which was very relaxing and refreshing, perfect for the hot day. We then went to Giza, visit a government project for perfume and essential oils mixes based on ancient Egyptian recipes, which we found quite interesting. Then had lunch in a buffet restaurant where many other tourist/tours were also having food. The food quality and variety was good, drinks not included and had to be paid extra (not expensive).
Then we went the Pyramids, what a sight and experience. It was extremely hot but still worth witnessing such a world wonder. The private mini bus leave us at the main entrance and you walk up to the bigger pyramid, take pictures. There is an extra charge if you want to go inside it but we were no interested with a small kid and a elderly. Then our private mini bus take us to a higher plateau where you can take a great view and pictures of all the pyramids, and our kids did short camel ride (paid to the camel owner). To finally, be taken by the bus close the effigy (another short walk required) with great explanations by Mohamed on how things where done in ancient times, and we took more pictures. The last part of the tour took us to another government project called the papyrus museum, where they explained how papyrus was done in ancient times and they keep using the old techniques, there were gorgeous papyrus painting which you can buy.
Then Mohamed and team (+ driver and security) took us back to the airport. We arrive we plenty of time to have some food at the airport to then take our flight back to Sharm. We arrived at Sharm (at around 10 pm) where our private transfer guy was waiting for us to take us back to hotel.
It was a long exhausting day but totally worth it. And we want to thanks Mohamed and team for the great job and effort to make us feel safe and cared. Mohamed is ver friendly, great and knowledgeable guide, totally recommended.
