Discovered in 1952, the Cave itself sits 200ft (70 m) below the Burren limestone landscape. Equipped with a hard hat and in the hands of an experienced and knowledgeable guide, you’ll take the journey through an intricate system of passages and pathways, learning as you go how the Cave was formed. It’s an awe-inspiring experience – and you’ll immediately feel the excitement and wonder of the Cave’s early explorers and adventurists, way back when. As you complete your descent, prepare for a moment of eerie calm, pitch black and complete silence – giving way to a sudden flood of light within the majestic cathedral-like dome of the Cave. The force of nature that is Europe’s Largest Stalactite takes centre stage: a vast structure reaching down from the roof of the Cave, catching the light, reflecting colours and detail like a massive, ornate glass chandelier. This showstopper is 7.3 metres long and weighs around 10 tonnes. An unforgettable experience.

  • Travelers should have at least a moderate level of physical fitness
  • There are 125 steps down and up from the cave. Every ten steps there is a landing and a handrail all the way.
  • The temperature in the cave remains a constant 11°C (52°F) so it appears cool in summer and warm in the winter. A light jacket or warm sweater will keep you cosy for the tour.
  • A sturdy pair of walking boots or shoes are advisable. Open-toed footwear is not suitable for the cave tour as it is slightly muddy and uneven terrain underfoot.
You can cancel up to 24 hours in advance of the experience for a full refund.
  • For a full refund, cancel at least 24 hours before the scheduled departure time.
  • If you cancel less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time, the amount you paid will not be refunded.
  • Any changes made less than 24 hours before the experience’s start time will not be accepted.
  • Cut-off times are based on the experience’s local time.

Excellent tour of the caves and the tour guide was very informative was a 50 minute tour and worth the entrance fee to learn the history of the caves. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues as 125 steps down then back up again but otherwise very manageable

A truly awe-inspiring experience. It's so hard to believe that this is real. Sandra was a great guide. Really funny and knowledgeable about the history of this cave, its founding, and the theories behind when, where, and how it came about. Highly recommend!!

Touren durch die Höhle sind nur geführt möglich, aber das lohnt sich. Man kriegt einen Einblick in die Entdeckerzeit und sieht das eigentliche Highlight, den riesigen Stalaktiten. Das Personal ist sehr freundlich und das Essen, das wir im angrenzenden Restaurant genossen haben war sehr gut.
