Famagusta is located on the north east coast of Cyprus..It was first named 'Arsinoe' than, 'Ammohostos' in Greek and 'Famagusta' in English. It was ruled by many civilizations for centuries. The rich history lies within the walls which surround this Medieval city. St. Nicholas Cathedral, Venetian Palace, the Church of Latins are some of the most important sites that we'll visit today. A short walk in Varosha is also in our program. This place has been abandoned for 46 years. Why is it called Ghost Town? If you like history this tour is ideal for you as there is a lot to be seen from many decades.

  • Bellapais Monastery, Kyrenia, Cyprus
    Today we start the day by driving to Kyrenia and visiting one of the nicest historical sights at the area. Gothic abbey was a Lusignan foundation for Augustinian canons. It is one of the nicest Monasteries in Middle East which is built on the slopes of Kyrenia Mountains. It was used as a Monastery until the 16th century when Ottomans came to the island. The Monastery is located at the Bellapais village which is one of the unique villages of the area. Lawrence Durell had also lived in the village which he wrote his book ' The Bitter Lemons of Cyprus'. After the visit of the Monastery will have a short walk in this beautiful village.

  • St Barnabas Monastery and Icon Museum, Famagusta, Cyprus
    After driving from Kyrenia to Famagusta our stop will be at the St. Barnabas Monastery. Barnabas has very important role in Christianity. The Tomb of Barnabas and the icon museum will be visited while you get to listen to its history. The place was in use until 1974. A lot to be told about while you visit the place.

Sirin ( pronounced Sheerin) was a fabulous tour guide! Starting out by going through the crossing point at Ledra was super easy from Nicosia and very interesting. She was there on the other side timely and met us to start out adventure. As we shared a cup of coffee in Bellapais, she shared some history and went through a map of the region. Sirin has a vast knowledge of the country and we enjoyed our day with her!

Kyrenia er en liten sommer by med mange tilbud til reisende. Sentrum er ikke så stor og det går an å gå de fleste steder. Det er flere fine strender i nærheten av byen, og mat og restauranter. Det er mye å se ikke langt fra Kyrenia som f.eks. i Esentepe eller i Famagusta. Men inn i byen vil jeg sterk anbefale en tur til Saray hamam. Det var en ypperlig opplevelse. Nihawas restauranter er også noe for seg både fiske restauranten eller kjøtt restauranten på den andre siden av gata. En annen bra restaurant er Nima. Alle disse ligger ved hovedgata langs sjøen.
