Communication regarding booking process was 5 Star. The van driver who picked us up was very friendly and welcoming. The van used to pick us up from our accommodation could be upgraded, to give Viator a better first up impression in Malaysia. But that led to our
first Viator tour that we felt disappointed with due to the poor interactions with the tour guide. He did not interact with any of the paying guests, gave no introduction or commentary, provided no history of places we visited. Unfortunately the tour guide could only speak one or two words in English, and I doubt if he knew any other language as he did not communicate with any of the members of our group. At the end of the tour he even failed to say thank you or good bye to us or to any of the paying guests. Yet that was not the most disrespectful act he did on the day. He was observered smoking a cigarette inside the boat whilst approaching the jetty to pick us up from the beautiful Dayang Bunting island, and without hesitation he deliberatlely (like it was normal practice) blatantly discarded his cigarette butt over the side of the boat into the water. This was a very disappointing experience compared to our previous experience on Viator tours. A decent tour guide could have made this a fun filled memory, as the people on the tour were friendly, eager and friendly. The island hopping tour itself I would recommend to all visitors to Langkawi to see the beautiful places we visited, but based on this experience I would not recommend Viator due to the lack of inclusion and behaviour by the boat tour guide.
