Teotihuacan Private Tour from Mexico City

Our private tour of Teotihuacan became the absolute highlight of our trip thanks in very large part to the exceptional gifts of our guide, Eloy. The city itself is awe-inspiring in its size, complexity and engineering, but Eloy was the interpreter who helped us to recognize the majesty of its culture, philosophy and art, its place in the history of Mesoamerica and Mexico, and the scope and depth of its connections to societies from other times and other places around the world. Eloy is a gifted teacher, his knowledge so profound and intimate that my grandson and I are pretty well convinced that he must once have been a citizen of Teotihuacan, now reincarnated according to their ancient religion in order to open our eyes to their world! As one after another of the guides and workers at the site greeted him with joy and deep respect it became pretty clear that he is widely acknowledged as the Sage of Teotihuacan! Our reservation was for two people, my 12-year-old grandson and his 75-year-old grandma. From the beginning, the communication with Eloy and our driver Hugo was great. Hugo picked us up at the hotel at 8:00 on the button and drove us through the beautiful countryside to Teotihuacan where we met our guide Eloy. We visited the Temple of the Sun and climbed the Temple of the Moon and when we mentioned the Mural of Tlalocan Eloy sparkled with enthusiasm and gave us additional time to go out of the way to see it. It was incredible to lay eyes on this beautifully preserved ancient mural and a revelation to read its meaning through Eloy's interpretation! As we toured the ancient city, Eloy took us deep into the traditions and cultural practices of the people of Teotihuacan and helped us understand the symbolism of the incredible art and sculpture we were seeing. He had a story from the myths, from history, from philososopy, or a scandal or mystery to share at every point in the tour. My very curious grandson had every question answered, was encouraged to speculate and to imagine the world of Teotihuacan, and was challenged to think more deeply about connections through time and space, and it was the same for me. We were completely captivated by the entire experience, and my grandson will be getting a book of Mesoamerican myths for Christmas. I do want to note here that Eloy's English is excellent, and that made a big difference to an old lady who doesn't want to admit she's deaf and a kid who might not have had the energy to hang on otherwise. The whole experience was wonderful for both of us, inspiring, challenging and unforgettable -- the highlight of our trip. I have traveled often and for many years and this was one of the best tours I can remember. We thank you for this very great gift, Eloy!

Aldo, our tour guide, was so nice and extremely knowledgeable about Mexico City and, of course, the pyramids. Comfortable van that fit the 5 of us with room to spare. They had cold water available and went at our pace. We went to lunch at a cute restaurant right next to the pyramids. Overall, great day and I'd highly recommend Aldo as your guide.
