The museum is a worthwhile attraction to visit at Pier 86. There a numerous exhibits in the hangar of the aircraft carrier related to the actual history of the vessel, space modules, helicopters, aircraft etc. A lot of interesting history. The simulators are in need of an upgrade and pretty disappointing.
The deck of the carrier has numerous planes and helicopter exhibits to view, the Lockheed A-12 is disappointing and just doesn’t look realistic, a lot of the planes have their cockpits obscured and it takes away the realism of the exhibits.
The carrier itself is looking tired and rusty and could do with a facelift, but very interesting.
There is also an excellent submarine exhibit, Growler, with guided nuclear missile launch capabilities, excellent exhibit but queuing in the heat is not comfortable.
There is also a Concorde exhibit, an extra ticket is required for a guided tour inside, still good to experience the actual size of the aircraft from outside.
There is also an underwater and space shuttle (Enterprise) exhibit too.
An interesting experience with plenty to do and see, it can take up a few hours of your day and worthwhile.
