    See the Intrepid Air Craft Carrier, the Space Shuttle Pavilion featuring temporary exhibition "Apollo: When We Went to the Moon", the Growler Submarine, plus watch an 8-minute film entitled 'the Story of Intrepid' and a 15-minute film called 'Kamikaze: Day of Darkness, Day of Light.' Launched in 1943, the former aircraft carrier USS Intrepid fought in World War II, surviving five kamikaze attacks and one torpedo strike. The ship later served in the Cold War and the Vietnam War. Intrepid also served as a NASA recovery vessel in the 1960s. It was decommissioned in 1974, and today is berthed on the Hudson River as the centerpiece of the museum.

Great for those who love this sort of thing. I was accompanying my son who is plane crazy, so he loved it. Found it strange that in the Space Shuttle exhibition there was nothing about this, but an underwater exhibition. Why have a space shuttle if it’s not referenced. The day we visited there were also lots of dignitaries there and the press - not sure what that was about. So would recommend a visit if interested in planes and combat. It wasn’t really my thing, but my son enjoyed it.

Visiting this museum of American military and maritime history at Pier 86 in New York City is a must-see. It has several exhibits, spaceships, a submarine, the plane called the "Black Bird" and the Concorde, an aircraft carrier, a space shuttle, flight simulators, and we can all enter them without any problem.
