My boyfriend and I decided to work and travel while in Peru and of course we wanted to see Machu Picchu. There are so many ways to go to the Lost Incan City. We are in moderate shape and we wanted to see some amazing sites, learn about the culture and history, and have some downtime as well. This tour exceeded our expectations in all of these areas.
Our guide Bernabe was experienced, knowledgeable, funny, prompt, and kind. He stuck to our schedule and made everything as seemless as possible. We didn’t have to worry about anything. He gave us so much insight as to how the Incans lived, the geography of the Andes, and history of Machu Picchu.
On our 2 and a half day hike, we saw waterfalls, ancient temples, local Quechua people and their farm land. We started around 3500m and climbed up to 4500m, going over two mountain passes. We visited the Sun Gate, Inca Quarry, and various ruin sites. Our chef was amazing!! We ate so well and it was always delicious. We had a local horseman and 3 horses carry all the camping equipment and bags. We only carried our day pack and water. All camping equipment, first aid, food, and water was provided for us. The best part was that this trail is not crowded at all. We saw maybe 6 other hikers the whole time. You will have the best photos and time to enjoy the quiet views.
On the 3rd day, you catch a train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and we had the rest of the day to explore and rest on our own. The hotel was very nice and it felt so good to relax in a proper bed before going to Machu Picchu the next day.
The last day, we decided to take the bus up to Machu Picchu because we were pretty sore from the hike and wanted to save our energy for Machu Picchu Mountain hike. The bus down is included and we only paid $12 for the ride up. After Machu Picchu, we returned to Aguas Calientes, had lunch and took the train back to Ollantaytambo. A driver picked us up at the station and drove us back to our Airbnb in Cusco.
We had such an amazing time!! If you can’t get permits for Inca Trail or you want a hiking experience with 5-star service and accommodations THIS IS THE TOUR FOR YOU. It was an unbelievable deal and I would recommend to anybody seeking an adventure.

It is hard to know where to begin, the adventure with this tierras vivas truly suprassed all expectations. We went with Tierras Vivas on a recommendation from our friends and are so grateful for it!
From start to finish our tour guide Efrain made our adventure magical. Efrain spent time sharing his in-depth knowledge of the inca trail, which allowed us to truly appreciate the spectacle of Machupicchu once we got there.
Efrain was part of a team (who also became our "family") for the 4 days who all worked so hard to make the adventure so fun, safe, and comfortable. Special mention to the chef and sous-chef who provided delicious food every day on camp!
We are so truly grateful to Efrain, the family and to Tierras Vivas
