The Rainbow Mountain (Montaña 7 colores), or Vinicunca, is a mountain in Peru with an altitude of 5,200 meters above sea level,  stunning and can be seen on the spectacular Ausangate area.  On this trek you will see quaint villages, beautiful adobe style houses, herds of llamas and alpacas and you will have magnificent views of the Ausangate Mountain (6,385 m / 20,945 ft.), the highest mountain in Cusco region.

Departure Point: Pick up from hotels in Downtown Cusco.
Always in the center of the city and prior coordination with the operator.
For places outside those limits, you must coordinate with the Operator the feasibility of your pick-up or meeting point or additional cost.
For your consideration: The time interval for pick-up from your hotel is 4.00 am - 5:00 am.

  • Cerro Colorado Vinicunca, Cusco, Peru
    The rainbow mountains are single handedly the second most important tour to take after Machu Picchu when in Cusco. Despite some negative press of the colours being deceptively bland, if you go on a clear day then this misconception will be debunked. Most tour agencies will touch-up and enhance their photos, so just keep in mind that it is not quite as vibrant as a literal rainbow. The hike is easy to do and takes just 2 hours to the top which is around 5000m. Prepare for bad weather as a sudden downpour may occur at any time. The tours are often cheap and you should expect to pay around 60 soles for the whole day.

I purchased a tour to Rainbow mountain at Viator.com. I received a ticket stating that my tour operator would be Turismoi.pe. The guide spoke no words in English. I do not understand Spanish. Thats why I paid more for the tour that should have been an English tour. But in reality i didnt understand nothing what the guide told about the mountain. At some point at climbing Rainbow mountain, I met another guide from another group who spoke english and he said that he would try to help me, if anything heapens. However I couldn't understand how he can help me if I go with different group in different minibus. The tour itself was bad. The mountain was swollen in the mist and nothing could be seen. Because there were no guides nearby, the climb was chaotic and at times couldn't figure out where to go. I really couldn't figure out when to come back, so I rushed down quickly. After coming down I got to wait a long time for the rest of the group, who were apparently Spanish speaking and understood when to come back. Even when everyone was back and we started our way home, driving down the serpentine road turned out to be a blocked road. It took several hours for the locals to clear the road. Thanks them. When we stopped to eat lunch in a cafe some mad dog attacked me and heavily stained my clothes with his dirty feet.
