We had two days of sunshine spent at Spekboom tented camp and two days of welcome drizzle spent at a cottage at main camp. Animal sightings of elephant, buffalo. kudu. red hartebees, eland, zebra, warthog, mongoose and a variety of bird life. Sorry we could not find the elusive lions.
The spekboom hide and waterhole gave excellent sighting every evening. Cannot say the same for the main camps bird hide waterhole. If Sasol is still sponsoring, then maybe they can insist that Addo management do a cleanup regarding the water and replacing bird pictures from time to time. The same go's for the visitors picnic area at main camp, it needs a bit of sprucing up.
Generally the tented camp is just that, a tented camp but again management needs to check the condition of beds, tent material and definitely replace the old fridge that is meant to accomodate five tents, it's on it's last legs!
Unfortunately main camp facilities such as the public bathroom / toilets needs a make over, very unhygeinic! We stayed in Chalet Nine and I strongly suggest that which ever manager is in charge, get off his / her butt and get involved with the day to day maintenance. Provide each cleaner with a check / maintenance list that must be handed in at the end of a shift. Our shower outlet pipe was blocked. The towel rack kept coming apart. The curtain rail holder at the entrance door had fallen out of the wall and was hidden away in the side bed cupboard. The outside refuse bin had lost a bolt holdind the revolving door, so could not be used and lastly there were no ice trays in the fridge, we checked others did have. The point I'm making is that this National Park is not short of finances and management has become lazy. This park, like many others should be a show peace to our international visitors. Nature has kept it's side of the bargain and so should management of our parks.
