Wine Tasting Day Trip from Prague to Melnik

This was such a fun and different experience. Be prepared to take the bus for about 45 minutes to and from Melnik (tickets were included with the price). This gave us time to get to know our guide, Michal, and learn a little about local culture and customs. We then explored the town and Chateau. Michal was extremely knowledgeable and provided the perfect amount of information and history without being overwhelming. We really enjoyed seeing the wine cellar and then the tasting. The wines were fantastic and we were excited to bring some home. We would highly recommend this unique day trip to experience more of Czech Republic and get out of the city for a little bit and would recommend requesting Michal as your guide.

A very interesting day-out which made a change from the tourist traps of Prague. Be prepared to travel by tram/metro to the suburbs from which you will catch a bus for a ~40 minute ride to Melnik. (Unlikely that there'll be sufficient numbers for a private coach hire). We arrived in Melnik just before 10am. Melnik is a market town dominated by the chateau, off the beaten tourist path I'd guess, and Michal's knowledge was impressive. The chateau and its restaurant were excellent and the basilica's ossuary is impossible to describe beyond "very moving". The wine tasting was extremely enjoyable - although I would personally prefer the red wines to be served at a higher temperature - and all the wines were outstanding. You probably won't find these wines anywhere else other than in Melnik. It was a straight-forward return journey and we were back in central Prague mid-afternoon. We could have stayed longer in Melnik, especially in the chateau's wine shop which has a good selection of wines. All in all, a very enjoyable excursion. Thanks to Michal.

Excellent tour avec notre guide Michal (nous l'avons fait en anglais)! Je recommande d'aller à cette excursion au début de votre séjour à Prague, comme ça vous aurez votre initiation au transport en commun de la région. Vous devez savoir que le guide vient vous chercher à votre hôtel, et les déplacements se font à pied, en métro et en autobus. Une fois à Melnik, nous avons débuté par une visite de l'ossuaire de la basilique, puis du merveilleux château. Après un repas traditionnel dans un restaurant près du château, nous sommes descendus dans l'impressionnante cave pour notre dégustation de vin. Michal s'est occupé de nous faire une visite personnalisée du château et de traduire les dires du sommelier pendant la dégustation, en plus de nous expliquer l'histoire de la région et de répondre à nos (multiples) questions. Je recommande fortement cette visite, surtout si vous voulez avoir l'impression de visiter Melnik avec un ami! Nous avons passé une excellente journée. Merci Michal!
