Halli led us on a private tour to Reykholt, home of the writer and historian Snorri Sturluson, then off to Hraunfossar waterfalls, followed by a phenomenal latte and tart at a lovely cafe in Husafell. We continued on for our ice cave tour at a glacier, filled with amazing views and clean, crisp air. We ended the day relaxing in a hot spring, soothing our tired bones and muscles.
On the way back to our hotel, I found out that our tour for the next day with a larger bus tour was canceled due to snowy weather. A large bus simply could not make it through the mountain pass. Halli could sense the disappointment from my friends and myself; he quickly offered us an alternative private tour for the next day. Gratefully, we accepted and were so pleased to have such a kind and considerate guide for the following day. Halli drove us to beautiful waterfalls, the famous Eyjafjalljökull volcano, beautiful black sand beaches, and gorgeous red-roof Icelandic churches. Once Halli realized that I had an affinity for lighthouses, he made a dream come true for me, stopping at the lighthouse in Dyrholaey. The views were breathtaking and in true magical Iceland form, the lighthouse light came on just as we were about to leave. I still have a smile on my face thinking about that memory!
Vik was a beautiful town, especially covered in snow, and the lamb stew was phenomenal. Driving back to Reykjavik, we witnessed the most beautiful sunset I have ever seen. Halli made sure for us to stop to take pictures, visit with the horses, and pose with the largest puffin ever seen.
Halli's tours around Iceland truly made a wonderful experience to share with my friends during post-covid travel. He was funny, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and up for adventure. We joked around quite a bit, and Halli will always have the nickname "Tex" after our trip! If you are thinking about booking a trip with a larger tour group because of costs, just don't; instead, choose True Attraction and spend the extra money to have a private tour with Halli. The memories you will make and the sights you will see are priceless!
