About the Sound of Music tour
Experience the making-of of the Sound of Music in and around Salzburg during this tour. The movie tells the story of Maria, who takes on a job as home teacher of a big family. She falls in love with the children and their widow father. The father is obligated by his work to accept a command from the German navy, but he is not willing to take this offer and decides to flee to Austria with Maria and the children.
This popular tour is a combination of sightseeing in the historic Salzburg and the famous film locations of The Sound of Music. The guide will take you, amongst others, to the Mirabell Gardens in the center of the city. This location can be recognized by the scene of the movie where Maria and the children sing Do-Re-Mi.
You will come across one of the most important places of the movie, the gazebo, which can be seen in various love scenes such as "Sixteen Going on Seventeen" and "Something Good". Take a step back in time and dance around the gazebo just like the cast of the Sound of Music to experience these romantic scenes for yourself! Later on the day you will visit the palace of Leopoldskron, the house of the Von Trapp family, which is located on a small lake which can be recognized from the movie. Via a walking path you will arrive at the Nonnberg monastery, where Maria and the Baron got married in real life!
Enjoy the breathtaking lakes and mountains while visiting St. Gilgen on Lake Wolfgang. This area can also be seen in the movie. To end the tour, the guide will take you to the church of Mondsee, where the famous movie wedding of Maria and the Baron was filmed.
