Just drive into this special place and enjoy. Birders must go here if traveling in Sicily. No need for a tour. Several km of trails, a few observation blinds, wetlands full of flamingoes shorebirds and waterfowl. A few euros for parking and a few for entry. Some historical buildings on one point going back 600 years. After the walk there is a little wine bar where snacks and coffees are available. Or if you want a gourmet lunch there is an outdoor service with some nice wines available. Doesn’t look like much but the food sure does.

La riserva è ben curata e pulita. Ci sono molti posti di osservazione per gli amanti del birdwatching, molti sentieri per passeggiate e la storica e ben conservata tonnara di vendicari. Il biglietto di ingresso di 3,50 € è valido per l'intera giornata e per accedere alla riserva da tutti i punti di ingresso disponibili. Munitevi di acqua e cibo perché all'interno della riserva non ci sono punti di ristoro. Consigliatissimo.

This is a nice nature preserve with a dose of commercial activity. It does not have its own parking but some enterprising neighbours have set up a parking lot about 750 m away. 5 Euro will get you a secure spot and bottle of water. Then you walk down the road to the nature reserve ticket office and entrance is 3.50 each. This allows you entry and access to the walkways, bird blinds and old tuna processing plant. We went 10 ish and it was very hot. Limited shade except for the blinds. We did see plenty of flamingos, herons and egrets in the lagoon. Disappointingly there were. Lot of cordoned off areas - such as the salt-flats and the Swabian tower. No exhibits were open but there were some information boards. We did not go to the "beach club" which required a further fee. A free beach was accessible near the Swabian tower. If you want to go for the birds go much earlier than we did. A good 1.5 mile hike from parking lot to the Tonnara with limited shade made it very hot. Take good binoculars as the blinds are set a fair way back. Very few song birds likely due to the Sicilian hunting habits and general abundance of feral cats. Bring hats and lots of water. There were some dubious looking portapotties on the way in.
