Easy to book trip and also easy to board (multiple meeting spots by varying tube stations). This does make for a bit of a long day since the first major sight is about 2 hours from London. Of the two sites, they each have benefits and drawbacks. Avebury was larger, had a cute little cafe and shop, and we had some time to meander alone. I liked the history and pictures the tour guide had.
Stonehenge is, as you’d expect, MUCH busier. You can’t get very close on the basic tour (I’ve seen special tours that go before opening hours), so there is only so long you can walk around rocks from a distance. I also went on a VERY warm and sunny day, so I didn’t want to stay out and just sit for a while. The museum there is small but packs a LOT of I formation inside, so I recommend taking time to explore.
As an important side note, I was disappointed with my tour guide. He brought up politics multiple times despite me trying to change the subject, and he also was quite negative about multiple pop culture persons while talking about his favored music/artists. He and our driver did show a lot of compassion when someone became carsick, however. I know she felt quite supported for that.
