I found this excursion to be very disappointing. I will start off by saying that I knew would be a long day. However the way the tour chose to do pickup made it even longer. We were picked up at 5 AM in Cancun and made several stops as we had headed south. So the 7 AM start time seems to be from Tulum so just heads up when you book it. We arrived back at our hotel at 10pm. We stayed in the hotel zone. They did content drop off, so that really helped all the playa Del Carmen people were dropped off to a different bus.
We were the only English-speaking people out of the 26 our Tour group. Which was fine, considering we were in a Spanish-speaking country. However, it did say on the Tour description that there was an English-speaking guide, and that was true for most of the day, but when you were on the boat ride through the lagoon, the tour guide didn’t come and the boat guide didn’t speak English so we didn’t know anything they were saying.
The lunch and breakfast were very good! Drinks are offered Spook at both meal stops for a good price. However Only one bottle of water is given to you throughout the day from the Tour company. I’ve never been on a tour that didn’t offer drinks with the price of the tour so that was a big surprise. They told us we got one bottle of water when we were on the bus, but we actually never even received that one bottle. Fortunately, I had Apple Cash on my phone so I was able to use that to buy drinks, but that should have been mentioned in the Tour description or the email that was sent to me with instructions of the day. Are they only providing one bottle of water for a 17 hour day? It was insane to me.
You should know that you’re not allowed to wear sunscreen in the Lagoon at all. So if you’re in the water, there is very little shade available. And not even reef safe sunscreen is allowed. Another thing that should have been mentioned. So if you choose to do this tour, and you want to swim and you’re sensitive to the sun bring a swim shirt and hat and make sure you’re able to cover up.
Cenote Azul is more like a small pond/lake. Clean and warm water but not a unique cenote.
The 2nd stop at the lagoon is in a backyard type setting with swings, hammocks and a small dock but The view is of boats. The Lagoon is blocked by a bunch of parked boats.
The last stop is the boat ride and it was fine enough. I recommend bringing a change of clothes for the bus ride back.
Our tour guide wasn’t very friendly and didn’t seem all that interested in being there. Surprising . The people in Mexico are my favorite part of traveling there. Usually warm and friendly.
