You will begin in St Mark's square, where you will hear all about the long history of this famous piazza, as you make your way to the Doge's Palace. Spectacular tour of Doge's Palace and St Mark's. Our guide Nico first expertly guided us through Doge's Palace. After hours the palace is quiet with just a few other groups, and you are able to really absorb the beauty and history. Nico was a wealth of knowledge and enjoyable to be around. We had a break between the tour of the palace and St Mark's. He recommended for us to tour the bell tower in the square, which I also highly recommend, and he gave us some dinner recommendations. After dinner we toured St Mark's. It was an unforgettable experience. You enter the basilica with just a few other groups. It's very intimate. The lights are dimmed, and they slowly turn them on to reveal the beautiful golden mosaic masterpieces on the walls and ceilings. It's incredible. Nico gave us some time to absorb the beauty and then led us around St Mark's pointing out some of the more significant artwork and detailing the history of the basilica. He is extremely knowledgeable. We rated this experience in our top five experiences in all of Italy which is why I am taking time to review it. If you can budget this tour, I highly recommend booking it with Nico. We booked several tours with Liv Tours and they were wonderful to work with.
