Schokoladen- und Kaffeetour Farm Don Jorge

Highly recommend! It was a lovely, personalized experience. We were the only family there and prefer this to larger, more touristy-type of group tours. It was about 2 hours long. It really gave us and my children a sense of a typical Costa-Rican family home and business which is what we wanted. This is a multi-generational family-owned farm and the owners take great pride in teaching others about the origins of the cacao tree and chocolate. Very informative and interactive. They are so nice and pleasant to talk with. The waking tour (several steps down- not for those with significant mobility issues) is simple but thoughtful. It allows you to appreciate all the foundational raw ingredients- from the cacao to the spices that we used to season the chocolate and the sugar cane juice which we pressed ourselves. So good! Very interactive with plenty of opportunities to keep the attention our kids who appreciated helping with the process of making our own chocolate. The chocolate and the coffee at the end of the tour are amazing. Some of the best coffee we’ve ever had. We did not do the waterfall but I wish we had- it was hot and would have been nice to cool off, but silly us we had just been to waterfalls the day before and skipped it. It’s probably worth it to take a dip and cool off. We loved our time with Ronald and his family and would love to come back next time we are in La Fortuna, even if just to visit and enjoy a cup of coffee again.

Tolle private Tour. Wir sind einfach zur Farm gefahren und Martin machte mit uns beiden eine private Tour. Er zeigte uns die verschiedenen Kakao-Früchte im Garten und erklärte uns auf dem Rundgang auch viele andere Früchte, die in seinem Garten wuchsen wie Ingwer, Zimt, Ananas, Vanille, Kaffee, Avokado, Stern- und Drachenfrucht, Mangos usw. Er zeigte uns die Verarbeitung der Kakaobohnen, die wir in jedem Verarbeitungsstadium kosten konnten. Dann konnten wir selbst Zuckerrohrsaft herstellen und natürlich auch probieren. Danach gab es einen selbst hergestellten Kaffee mit Keksen, bevor es an die Kakao-Verarbeitung ging. Wir konnten die Kakaobohnen selbst zerkleinern und mit anderen Zutaten abschmecken, den Rohkakao und einen selbstgemachten Milchkakao probieren und eigene Pralinen aus den Kakaobohnen herstellen, die wir dann auch mitbekommen haben. Martin wurde dabei tatkräftig von seiner Tochter unterstützt. Wir hätten uns auch noch den privaten Wasserfall ansehen können, hatten dazu aber nach dem vorherigen Besuch beim La Fortuna Wasserfall keine Lust mehr. Die Tour war richtig spannend und informativ mit vielen leckeren Kostproben. Absolut zu empfehlen!

Martin and his family were great! We learned so much and it was extremely personalized. My husband and I were the only ones on our tour and Martin prefers it that way. We had great conversation with Martin and his daughter, learning so much about the native culture. I highly recommend this activity while you’re in La Fortuna.
