We did the driving tour of the Amalfi coast. We started with our Driver, Nello, picking us up right at the hotel about 8:00 AM and off we went. Picked up another couple , then started the drive out of Sorrento, heading first to Positano. You could tell quickly that Nello was experienced at doing this tour. He started out by talking to us and telling some funny stories and he was also a very good driver, especially on these very narrow, curvy roads! But he joked that he was a horrible driver, but nothing was farther from the truth! Our stop at Positano was just for about an hour. Enough time that we could walk around a little, down to the water and then meet back at the parking garage. It was a very pretty, but small town. We did get some pictures as he drove along the stunning coastline.
Our next stop was Amalfi. First, we got in line to get tickets for a short boat ride (which isn't always available) along the coast, then we had some time to walk around before being back for the boat ride. We wanted to walk up to the paper museum and as we started up, realized that we wouldn’t have enough time to get there and back so we stopped at a bakery instead and picked out a piece of lemon cake, almost like a pound cake, that we shared but it was sooo good. The we walked back down and meet our group for the boat ride along the coast, we went past a house that Sophia Loren used to own and we also went north up past Minori and Maiori then back.
Next we drove up to Ravello and had a really nice light lunch and some wine at a small, private place that had a great view out over the coast. We then had some time to walk around Ravello.
After Ravello, Nello drove us back to Sorrento by a different route that took us through some beautiful mountain areas. Overall, it was a very nice day and we saw some beautiful sights on our day excursion.
