I rarely write reviews for tours and trips yet I must write one for this because this was one one of the top ten days of my life. Firstly, Jordan Drive Tribe and Haitham were incredible. Firstly, they upgraded us to a Mercedes E-class - that car is incredible and I will explain why in a minute. There was a small mix-up with our breakfast at our hotel which delayed our departure by a half hour and then we forgot our passports at the hotel which delayed us by another half hour. Yet, Haitham was super patient and helped us out by calling the folks at Petra ahead of time and checking whether we needed our passports at all (we did).
For the first part of the tour we went to Petra. A few tips. Leave for Petra as early as you can. For two reasons - at the very least it would take you 4 hours to explore Petra sufficiently. In fact, Jordan Drive Tribe has a longer version of this tour where you get to spend a full day or more at Petra and that is what I would recommend. It's a vast vast place. Second, if you get there around 11am or so, it gets really hot to walk around. Regardless of all that, though, Petra is an incredible experience. The history and sights are quite incredible. Although one drawback is Petra has become really commercialized and there are a lot of shops selling souvenirs around scattered around the site. However, that is a minor blemish and overall it was a great experience. Oddly, enough Petra - one of the seven wonders of the world - is the least impressive part of this tour.
Up next, we drove from Petra to Wadi Rum. In my opinion, that drive is the greatest road trip that I have ever had. The incredible beauty of the Sahara desert was only matched by driving with the sun roof open in Mercedes E-class. The roads are very good and hitting 100mph on those roads especially dotted by giant windmills that look like Godzilla peering over a mountain-top is absolutely amazing. After a drive that we didn't want to end, we reached Wadi Rum.
At this point, we changed vehicles to a Chevrolet 4x4. If you have seen The Grand Tour on Amazon this was like the Namibia episode, driving up and down sand dunes and seeing that beautiful desert where The Martian was filmed was one of the greatest things I have ever experienced. We walked up sand dunes, my mother almost had her hand bitten off by a camel (don't worry; the tour is not dangerous - she had her hand almost bitten off 3 years ago by Ostrich in Mauritius - that's just something that happens to her), we took a picture with an engraving of Lawrence of Arabia and had tea with the Bedouins.
The drive back is really long - it took us 4 hours to get back to Amman and that's another reason you should pick the multi-day tour by Jordan Drive Tribe but Haitham was a really gracious host and even though we went 2 hours over the 10-13 hours duration it says on Tripadvisor, he made provisions for all of us and was kind enough to take periodic breaks to use the restroom and for food.
I would highly recommend this tour and Jordan Drive Tribe
