This turned out to be a much larger tour group than I expected. Picked up from my accommodation in a van, but soon transferred to a coach bus, with 40 tourists on board.
We were offered two options for the day: 1) do a short guided hike up to a lookout offering good views of Mount Fitz Roy and the peaks nearby, followed by lunch in a local restaurant, or 2) do a longer self-guided hike to get closer to Mount Fitz Roy, with a boxed lunch.
I opted for (1). The only negative was the 45,000 ARS park pass that was needed to gain access to do the hike. Expensive, considering the hike only took about one hour in total.
After lunch, we drove east of town, for an easy 500 meter hike to a waterfall. Many, many tour groups doing the same, resulting in WAY too many people at the waterfall simultaneously, literally tripping over one another, and jockeying for photos. Bedlam. Think the tour companies need to get together, and arrange slot times for the waterfall, to have their groups arrive at different times.
