A fun and informative day that gave us a true insight into how the local people of the island of Boa Vista live. Aritson contacted us the night before to confirm pick up arrangements and we were collected promptly from the hotel. A short drive through the rural villages to be greeted but a rousing drum reception where we were introduced to some of the family. Pretty soon we were getting stuck in ourselves, drumming, feeding and milking the animals and learning about the local way of farming life such as charcoal making from our knowledgeable guide. A late 'breakfast' of local fare under a shady tree, then back to see the goat's milk we had collected be made into award-winning cheese... then a chance to relax and try some along with the home made liqueur before heading back to the hotel. Aritson also kindly sent through a selection of photos and videos as a memory of our lovely day.
Tips:
1. Be prepared to get involved - this is your chance to try things it is unlikely you will have never done before!
2: This is a working farm that utilises traditional and sustainable methods, wear sensible clothes and be mindful you will be with animals and on arable terrain
3. There are various opportunities to wash your hands, however if you are very particular, you may want to take a small bottle of hand gel with you
