This was a fantastic tour of the south of the island.
We wanted authentic Mauritius and we got it in abundance. Avi picked us up and took us to Curepipe for breakfast. We sat inside this family run snack bar and enjoyed mouth watering roti and Dholl puri washed down with homemade alouda everything was made by the family and we were shown how they did it. We then went to see the dormant volcano and onto the ship factory via a duty free shopping mall selling absolutely everything.
We then drove off road through sugar canes to see an old sugar cane chimney and Avi explained how it would have worked when it was functioning.
We stopped at a natural bridge at Ponte Naturel. On to a Tamil Temple nestling amongst the sugar cane field. We walk over an old railway bridge with the highest drop in Mauritius and then on to the beautiful beach of Gris Gris and it’s wild coast. Stopping for lunch at a family run curry and noodle bar we then went off road winding through farmland to the magnificent Rocester Falls.
We climbed down a small path and swam in the bottom of the falls with many locals. Avi then drove us along one of the most scenic roads in Mauritius following the south coast to arrive at the stunningly beautiful La Prairie beach. On our way back home we stopped at two view points showing all of the south coast.
Avi is a wonderful host and his knowledge of old and new Mauritius is exceptional.
