Where to begin! Booking Gerald was the best thing we did on this trip, and we’re so lucky to have found him. Gerald had an educated answer to ALL of our questions (and we had a ton) and was SUPER knowledgeable in every aspect of our trip. You can tell that he is very passionate about what he does and takes his job very seriously. He had everything planned for us and was willing to adapt to what we wanted to do. As soon as we mentioned we wanted to do/taste something, he instantly knew what to do and where to go. His connections are truly invaluable. We traveled to several cities in Nicaragua and he seemed to know everything and everyone, and got us hooked up with private tours and unique experiences. Things we would have never been able to do without him. Absolutely AMAZING stuff. I can’t stress enough how much different our trip would have been without him. If you are reading this and are in search of a guide, please do yourself a favor and book Gerald. It simply can’t get any better than him.

This is the second time I have visited Nicaragua and the second time that I have used Geraldo Duran as our tour guide. The first experience was so wonderful that I told him I would be back. I absolutely love everything about Nicaragua and Geraldo. The country is so beautiful, interesting and safe its just a wonder that more tourists haven’t discovered this treasure in our “backyard”. But it is nice to visit a place that isn’t overrun with tourists. The country is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited (I’ve been traveling over 40 years and have visited more than 120 countries). The ocean is mostly untouched by development and they have 7 active volcanoes. The people are super friendly. I think most Americans believe it is a dangerous country but that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, guns are outlawed here so it feels much safer than the US. We had a chance to visit Masaya, an active volcano as well as Granada, Lake Apoyo. But the highlights were the simple places Geraldo took us to so we could eat local food and visit traditional ceramic workshops. We traveled with 13 people including our 7 grandkids and they had a ball. The kids of course loved the beach and so we spent most of our time at Playa Iguana and it is a beautiful place. I didn’t get a chance to sandboard this time but maybe next time. I plan to go back this fall. Geraldo is a real environmentalist and so knowledgeable about nature so we really connected there. His English is flawless.
