We went on the full day 4x4 tour.
The tour was advertised as a visit to the shipwreck museum followed by a visit to the wreck, plus a few other stops on a full island tour.
What it actually was, was a long, hot and uncomfortable drive around in an un-conditioned jeep, in which myself (5’10) and my partner (6’3) were stuffed in to the boot .. along with 2 other couples in the seats.
The first stop was was a sandy hill with several men with small stalls pushing their wares, which would have been fine, if they hadn’t followed us around and been stood within 2 ft of us everywhere we went. This was the ‘sand surfing’ stop. I’m not getting in to it, let’s just say it was more like a few kids messing around than a €100 a head paid tour.
Second stop was the wreck, the rusty leftovers of a small fraction of the ship, may have been semi interesting if you stumbled on it by accident. Took about 3/4 of an hour to get there, trapped in a stuffy hot box. During the trip the driver, who I don’t recall being advised was a professional rally driver, started driving erratically across the sand dunes, I understand that this may be fun for a lot of guests, but having been in a car accident that left me with a fear of being trapped in small spaces, it was not a welcome surprise for me. This wasn’t just our car, it’s clearly something they all do, it just isn’t advertised as part of the trip. And probably not covered by your insurance either.
The third stop was a short stop in a town in which I believe the museum was, you aren’t taken there, you’re dropped off in an unfamiliar place and told you’ll be collected again in 40 minutes. No time to get your bearings, enough time to grab a drink and find a loo, finding the museum and doing a self tour would have been a push.
By the time we stopped for lunch we knew we were not getting back in that car, my nerves were raw and my partners head and neck was sore (from being taller than the roof of the boot we were in) we decided to get a taxi back to the hotel from this point.
After discussing our experience with tui reps we were fobbed off with ‘somebody will contact you on the app’ the response on the app was unapologetic, bordering on rude and offered a menial voucher - not specifying what we could use this for. The case was then closed. I’ve since attempted to make a complaint about the whole situation on 3 separate occasions and received little more than automated emails until we were advised our case had been considered and we were being denied any kind of refund or compensation. Now they’ve closed our case again.
Complete waste of a days holiday, waste of €200 and waste of time chasing uninterested tui customer service.
Thanks for nothing TUI, we’ve changed our plans for next year and won’t be using you again.
