My sister and I had a fantastic day yesterday visiting My Son followed by the trek. Our guide at My Son was so good. He obviously has a passion for history and the Champa culture, and was very knowledgeable. Being there early was also an excellent and quiet time to visit the ruins.
The two of us were the only ones on the trek. We started the walk from the back of My Son. Be aware that you MUST wear decent shoes, long sleeves and trousers otherwise you will be scratched and cut to bits. This is a proper jungle trek and our guide was using a machete to clear the path. He realised very quickly that we were very interested in bugs, wildlife and plants so kept on pointing things out and passing on interesting facts and, thanks to Google Translate, we had great conversations. We stopped at about 10 am for about an hour by a stream for a rest and a delicious bbq. (Take note that this was our first meal of the day if you are someone who needs food to function). We then walked for another 2-3 hours up and down hills. It's not difficult but it is long and hot.
All in all it was a really great day and both guides were awesome. Highly recommended but go well prepared.
