Upon arriving at the ocean, we noticed much activity. We were truly blessed to witness the community in their fishing experience. It was a wonder to watch the boatmen pull the nets out, and teams of people puling the ropes in. This endeavor could not have been done in isolation. It really did take a village! I even got in on the action, as I wanted to have a feel of what it was like. It left me in awe, as it was such hard work to pull in the lines. This is the livelihood. Everyday, every season, each year. Simple. Community. Close to what nature provides. How very precious!
Aside from this incredible experience, I enjoyed the beach, itself. Though it is only about 10 miles from Maputo, it took us about an hour. One half hour was on paved road. The road on the penninsula was of dirt and very rutted. We just took our time and enjoyed looking at the marshes filled with various birds and cattle.
All together, a very worth while day!
