Austrian Delights: Gourmet-Restaurant und Konzert im Wiener Musikverein

BUYER BEWARE- this is the biggest tourist rip off and it left me literally with a bad taste in my mouth. We planned a family visit to Vienna so I decided to splurge and buy an elegant evening for us in advance through Vienna Ticket Office. We purchased a category B dinner and concert package that promised a three course meal at the Grand Hotel on the 7th floor with a complimentary glass of sparkling wine- the package cost us 500€ and that was with the child discount. We picked up our tickets at the office, service was pleasant. We dressed for the occasion, so excited for a special dinner in a lovely hotel dining room. When we arrived, they pointed us to the hotel lobby bar where we were seated literally beside the bar, with a nice view of the reception desk and people sitting on the sidewalk patio in sweatsuits. The dinner we had was as cheap as you could expect- a tiny cup of consume, followed by three deep fried chicken thighs with a side of potato salad, and stale desserts. We had to pay for all drinks including water and wine. We were informed that the complimentary drink was ‘a website error’. I didn’t really care about that but honestly, for that price, you could enjoy a fabulous meal in Vienna. I was so embarrassed that I expected this to be a ‘high end’ experience. My children couldn’t even eat the meal, it was so unpleasant. We left hungry. When we arrived at the show, we might as well have come in a tour bus because that was all we saw- hoards of tourists from buses. We took our seats. They did not dim the lights and the concert began- that in itself was strange. It was all so touristy and packaged- we love classical music, have invested in taking our family to the ballet and opera to enrich their cultural experience- this did not provide that at all. The musicians were good but I would have much preferred to watch them perform one solid piece. I suppose if you are older or do not have any experience with music or restaurants and have money to burn, this would be an okay experience. For us, it was a major disappointment- I felt robbed in the end. For that money, would could have had a 5 star evening in Vienna- this was definitely not it. Don’t book anything ahead and you will get much better value for your money. If you want this type of experience, there are kiosks on every corner selling it when you get here for a fraction of the price. By the way, despite an email to Vienna Ticket Office- I’ve received no apology for their failure to deliver the dining experience they promised (and charged for!).

Unehrliche, betrügerische, inkompetente Organisation. Machen Sie nicht das Dinner-Show-Paket und achten Sie beim Kauf von Konzertkarten auf Ihre Sitzplätze. Wir kauften online für die Show. In jeder Ticketkategorie, einschließlich der „Superior“-Tickets, die wir gekauft haben, war ein Glas Sekt zum Essen inbegriffen. Wenn Sie sich hinsetzen, bieten sie Ihnen als Erstes dieses Getränk an. Als wir das Abendessen für das Konzert verlassen wollten, wurden wir vom Personal damit konfrontiert, dass es die beiden im Preis inbegriffenen Getränke nicht bezahlt hatte und uns erst gehen ließ, als wir ihnen eine Kopie des Website-Pakets per E-Mail schickten. Dies ist Teil eines Pakets, das an den meisten Tagen der Woche angeboten wird – wie könnte es sein, dass sie das nicht wissen. Erpressung für 21 Euro pro Glas, wenn wir bezahlt hätten. Das Essen war von sehr gewöhnlichem Standard. Als wir beim Konzert ankamen und uns hinsetzten, konnten wir die Show im hinteren Teil des Gebäudes auf dem Balkon kaum sehen. Für die „Superior“-Sitze vorn hatten wir insgesamt 100 Euro extra bezahlt. Als das geklärt war, hatte ich den Beginn der Show verpasst und war bis zur nächsten Pause ausgesperrt. Ich war verschwitzt, außer Atem und hatte Schmerzen von mehreren Treppenauf- und -abfahrten und hatte eine Knieverletzung, als ich endlich richtig saß. Es gab keine Ausrede, es waren viele Plätze frei. Die Mitarbeiter auf der Messe waren hilfreich. Das Konzert selbst war unterhaltsam. Der 13-jährige Pianist war spektakulär. Der Konzertsaal war großartig. Ich schickte den Organisatoren eine E-Mail, um ihnen von meiner Erfahrung zu berichten und eine Rückerstattung der Preisdifferenz zwischen dem, was ich für die Tickets bezahlt hatte, und den Kosten für die Tickets zu beantragen, bei denen sie uns untergebracht hatten. 2 Wochen später habe ich keine Antwort erhalten, geschweige denn eine Entschuldigung.

Das Hotel liegt im Dorf Apuctures am Fluss Donau. Wir haben dieses Lokal auf Empfehlung besucht und waren sehr zufrieden.
