My family of 4 booked the Breakfast walking tour with Raffle as our guide. He was wonderful and knowledgeable. We wished we had time to book some of the other tours he offers. The breakfast was delicious and the history of the area was interesting. We got a heck of a deal for our tickets through Groupon. Highly recommend.
So, I usually drag my travel companions on food tours, but both times I’ve been in The Big Easy, I’ve been with people MAYbe not so keen on eating ALL the things. Hubs and I were there for a day with my parents in tow and they can be picky eaters, but also food-obsessed in terms of wanting all 3 meals scheduled throughout the day. This tour seemed perfect, knocking out a little history in the French Quarter (with a start point just steps from our hotel) and making sure they got a good traditional (as in not very adventurous) breakfast.
Got a nice confirmation text from our guide Raffle a couple of hours before the tour and then met him, no problem. I thought we’d eat first, but the tour was timed well with a little walking and talking (and even sitting, when possible, which my parents appreciated) first, then breakfast, then a little more touring. He also spoke nice and loud, which meant my dad, who is hard of hearing, actually got something out of the tour. I think we really only “toured” for 60-75 minutes, because the breakfast, which was simple, customizable, but delicious, took about 45 minutes, and Raffle didn’t join us for that portion. I think I would’ve liked it if he told us a few more stories during that time instead of leaving us to make small talk amongst ourselves, but I get that’s not for everyone. Btw, your food IS included which makes this tour a great deal, but you can upgrade with an adult beverage (my husband and I both got Bloody Marys), but that’s extra of course.
Raffle is a genuine, knowledgeable, no-BS tour guide, and we all enjoyed our morning with him and the little extras along the way like the opportunity to look inside St. Louis Cathedral and Gallery Burguieres. I’d definitely be into taking any of the tours he leads and even though too many people probably take him up on reaching out for further suggestions and help, it seemed like he meant it when he offered his services beyond the tour.
