What a terrible experience today with Tulum charters who is also Cancun Sailing. First, when we spend $1500+ on a boat for six people, I expect to be treated better than someone who pays $50 for the same catamaran with 100 people. Not today. And did you know that there are "permits" required to snorkel at the underwater museum. At least, that is what we're were told when we couldn't go there. But, since our hostess felt the frustration, she had to call her boss to get an okay… Why??? Take care of your paying customers. You would think that with $1500+, either company (Tulum Charters or Cancun Sailing) could organize a better schedule and get whatever permits are needed.... But you know where we could go... the same place the $50 per person catamaran goes. Oh, and there were no snacks and the liquor was so watered down there was no good buzz.
We rent private boats every year we go on vacation and this was the biggest let down. We are not new to sailing private, but we are new to terrible service and the “rules say we can’t do this. Or this. Or this. Or this. I drank one watered down rum punch and four waters. Out of cheap plastic cups that they use in kindergarten classes in America. Get some stemware for private rentals. 100+ people, I get the cheap cups. 6 people, I’d like nice glasses.
Secondly, the $25 buffet at IXI was awful. Tinga chicken with corn tortillas, rotten ceviche, iceberg lettuce, and jello for dessert? It made me sick and actually vomited while snorkeling over a reef. Do you guys quality control your recommendations or just add the fee and hope people like it? $25 for a buffet, I’d like a shrimp or two with my cheap Tinga chicken.
Cancun Charters, here's what you can do to make the experience better for private rentals:
1. Roll out the red carpet. Make us feel like what we paid for. I felt like $50 common folk.
2. Limit your staff to a captain and one server. Why did we have all these people
"working" the boat and I had four waters and one watered down rum punch. No food and only ONE snorkeling spot.
3. Get a fruit and cheese tray for the boat.
Let us snack on something.
4. Pick a new buffet. IXI was terrible. $25 per person for iceberg lettuce, tinga chicken, and jello for dessert. Why was that $25? Even your staff on the boat said it was terrible.
5. If someone wants a private boat, they don't want to be around common folk. They want red carpet treatment and a great experience. Not the same experience a $50 per person charter will get you in crowded areas with people I don’t want to be around or have anything on common with.
