We had 4 days in Bergen this summer, and had prebooked a cruise/ experience with this boat to Folgefonna. With this we could also see the fjords, and Hardanger Fjord is one of the best ones, especially from Bergen.
We got picked up near the fishmarket downtown Bergen 09:00, perfect time this lovely summer day, after a nice nreakfast at the hotel.
Cruising out the Vågen from Bergen was a great experience and view, and further from there southwards towards Hardanger Fjord. We passed small and larger islands on the way, and narrow fjords. We had the option of stopping by a large waterfall (Fureberg), but since this takes about one hour extra, we chose not to.
When arriving in Jondal village, a smalll coutry village next to the fjord, we walked around a little before we drove up to the Folgefonna glacier with a waiting car. Lovely experience this as well, about 20 km up steep mountainsides with great view down towards the fjord and villages far down there. We had not booked any special experience at the glacier, no hiking or skiing for us. But still great to see a real glacier, and the excellent view from the top of everything.
Back down in the Jondal village, we could chose boat or car back to Bergen. We had chosen the car, and therefore we took the ferry over the fjord (great experience itself), and continued with car on the other side. Next stop in Norheimsund for a little late lunch, lovely village also next to the fjord, reccomended to stop here.
After lunch we drove to the Steinsdalsfossen waterfall, where you can walk behind the water without getting wet. Also stopped at Fossen Bratte waterfall about 30 minutes later.
Driving to Bergen took about 1 h 30 min, and we werr let of just outside the hotel stairs around 6 PM, just in time for relax and dinner.
All details regarding the day was planned with the boat company while ordering, by several emails with he booking department. Very helpfull people, knowing all the best places to explore.
All in all a great day, actually the best one in the Bergen stay.
