After Chakana we went to Antisana Reserve, which was close by. While it feels remote, it is actually quite close to Quito. The views from the pass of the High Andes and in particular the snow covered Artisan Volcano are spectacular. The landscape includes glacial terrain, moors, swamps and lakes, making it idea for waterbirds. It was great for bird spotting and we saw over 40 species including Andean Teal, Duck and Ibis, Carcara, Cinclodes, Tyrants, wrens, finches and more. Again this was all due to our amazing guide Santiago from Neotropical, who is expert at hearing and spotting birds. He was also super helpful in assisting us to see them. And then there were the plants. So much to see in this conservation area.
