If your thinking of visiting the Galápagos Islands we highly recommend Aline and her team at SharkSky EcoAdventures Ecuador & Galápagos. They arranged one of the most amazing trips we’ve ever been on. All of the guides, drivers and operators she organized were fantastic and had incredible knowledge. We would definitely advise a tour company, as opposed to trying to do things on your own when you get there. Aline at SharkSky with her team made it an easy way to experience all of the natural aspects Galapagos offers and the smaller or private tours that they organize are even better.
We highly enjoyed every adventure organized for us. We actually extended our time there so we could have free days on each island. We did save up for the nicer accommodations but they’re relatively reasonably priced when compared with other locations. Highly recommend staying at Isabela Beach House with Jackie and Raymon.
The Galápagos Islands are a very special place on the planet that adults and especially children should get the chance to experience, both for the beauty and for the first hand undeniable connection to our long and connected evolutionary history on this planet.
Galapagos has high vaccination rates and people are courteous and careful with masks, social spacing and sanitizing still. Travel during these times needs to be well planned and prepared for as there can be the obvious COVID problems but the SharkSky team are there to help and arranged our exit tests we needed (while we saw other tourists who had not used a tour organization struggling to get their tests).
Some tips:
Dec/Jan are great months and heading into the hot wet season. We hear March is hottest and wettest so I wouldn’t plan any lava field walking then;-) Water is a little cooler in Jan but wet suits for snorkeling were just fine after the first plunge. SharkSky will provide all snorkel gear but I took a full face mask which I prefer.
Travel: We did Miami direct to Guayaquil for a short rest stop for one day at the Parque Hotel and city tour, then onto San Cristobal, Isabela and then Santa Cruz. Each for 3 or 4 days. Could have had a day or two extra (or three or ten;-) in San Cristobal and Isabela as we enjoyed them the most (great diving/snorkeling and a little more island life) but Santa Cruz is lovely as well, and Darwin Center is well worth the visit.
Thanks again to the SharkSky team, Guides and all Galapaguenos for letting us experience such an amazing destination. From our island home to yours.
