If you are in Belgrade and have an interest in football and supporters culture, or just enjoy ground hopping, then this tour is not something you want to miss.
Vojin is a superb host with a vast knowledge of the history and the rivalry between Red Star and Partizan, and the close relationship that this has with politics and the impact that it has upon society in and around Belgrade. He speaks at length as you experience first hand the division within the suburbs surrounding the two stadiums. The past is long and it is tense, and as you walk the residential areas covered in club murals, you begin to feel it.
You then move on to the Rajko Mitic Stadium, for what sets the standard for an access all areas tour. You will sit in the TV studio, the press conference room, you will of course walk the infamous Red Star players tunnel and you will even get to pose with a replica European Cup. The stadium museum was an unexpected bonus that is absolutely crammed full of history, of which the club and its people are extremely proud.
We were then lucky enough to visit the Partizan stadium, to conclude the tour.
You have learned so much about the two clubs by this point, that it is the perfect way to finish. It is fascinating to experience these ‘real’ grounds. They are far removed from the sterile appearance and nature of new build stadiums all across Europe.
Belgrade may not be a comfortable place for your team to visit, but it is a superb city for a few days exploring and this tour completed it for me.
Thank you, Vojin. 10/10.
