My girlfriend and I went on a 3-day trek into the Sahara desert from Douz over New Year's Eve. Our goal was a silent, relaxing start to 2025 close to nature.
All of our expectations were fulfilled. Everything was perfectly planned and executed. The food was amazing, and the accommodation was nice and exactly what you would expect.
However, the success of the entire tour depends on your guide. We were lucky to have Amir. He is a young Bedouin who is one of the few people who still lives as a true nomad. You can sense his love for the Sahara. He shared many stories about his passion for the desert and his dedication to preserving it.
Unlike some other guides, Amir treats his camels like his own children. While some guides treat their animals poorly (even hitting them). Amir's gentle care for his camels was wonderful to witness. This was extremely important to us, as we wanted our vacation to be as sustainable as possible.
If you're planning a similar trip, ask for Amir - he's the best choice you can make.
