Unfortunately this experience was very disappointing. While our guide was incredibly informative and kind, where we went snorkeling was near an island that was under construction; we could hear the sound of palm trees being ripped out of the earth on a beautiful island (were building a water/theme park) the entire time we were in the sea. In the water, not only was there very little sea life but we were absolutely surrounded by trash. Giant bags of trash on the sea floor, baby bottles, plastic bottles, hairbrushes, wrappers, soda cans, rubber, bits of styrofoam everywhere. Saw many dead fish in the water as well. It was really heartbreaking. We were actually picking tiny pieces of styrofoam off our bodies when we got out of the water. The beaches on Phu Quoc were even worse. Not blaming anyone, as this is a human problem that we are all a part of, but it was very disheartening to see a once pristine and natural place turned into a landfill/theme park. Overall a very bad— and very sad— experience.
