Fabulous experience, amazing animals... we had such great luck not having to trek far for either the chimpanzees or the gorillas.
I probably didn't do enough research to know how long the drives would be. Our itinerary suggested we would be able to do a community walk and swamp walk... after close to 10 hours driving from kampala we did the swamp walk (which was fun) and then reached our lovely camp when it was too dark to see our tea terrace view (but a hot shower we were grateful for)... and outstanding french influenced food... which was amazing.
The drive from kibale to Queen elizabeth took us three hours and the drive from Queen eliz Park to bwindi was at least 6 hours drive.
The drive are long and sometimes rough and loads of red dirt will enter your nostrils and ears!
Ideally you can close the windows and put on air conditioning reduce the discomfort.. if you had asthma it would be essential.
So plan your trip knowing the actual drive times.. if you can afford the extra days it would be worth it. Also kibale and Queen elizabeth do night time safari with rangers... they would have been extra money but worthwhile. Rangers track and have loads of knowledge.
Eric our driver was always attentive and willing to meet any odd request of ours... but he is of course pressed by the schedule too.
Interestingly we saw quite few animals outside of the parks... which was fun.
