We were picked up at 6.45am for the 90 minute drive to Auschwitz. Guided through the process of entering and being allocated a tour guide by our coach assistant we found the process efficient and well organised.
However, the tour left us with little time to eat, drink or go to the bathroom. hot drinks, ice cream and food were not allowed on the tour bus.
There is a small snack cafe and ice cream shop at both museums with limited options and no food is allowed during the guided tour.
The trip through the museum was rushed with no time to pause and read the information boards
Trailing too far behind the tour guide meant you lost service in your headset and therefore valuable information given by the guide.
The experience needs to be felt with time given to absorb and reflect on the atrocities that happened back then, to honour those who suffered and lost their lives and there was no time to do this.
I didn’t rage photos of the exhibits feeling that it was disrespectful but in hindsight I should have taken a lot more.
These people’s stories need to be heard. The world needs to know what happened. The abhorrent act of the Nazis must never be forgotten. Share your photos do they reach far and wide. Be the voice of the deceased who so cruelly lost their lives for being born into the wrong race.
