It's hard to put into words how wonderful my experience was. I'd never booked a private, multi-day tour like this before, and this was also my first visit to South America. If you have any hesitation, go for it! My guide Santiago was intelligent, knowledgeable, and a truly excellent traveling companion. I felt taken care of safe the entire time- even when we went to the adventure park for ziplining and other activities. I felt like he shared things with me I would never have found on my own, and really made a point to think of things I would like to see.
Horseback riding in Cotopaxi was such a very cool experience. If you're not used to the elevation, I'd definitely opt for this instead of the hike. I hadn't been on a horse in 25 years and felt safe and thoroughly enjoyed the landscape and ride. Quilotoa was beautiful and powerful. Kayaking on the lake was so peaceful, and I halk hiked/half rode back up. Wear hiking shoes or sandals for sure. The hotel there had wood fired stove heaters in the rooms which was fun and cozy. Baños was a fun and interesting place with great mojitos! The Pailon del Diablo was astounding! SuchiPakari lodge was phenomenal (upgrade your room to the jungle view- you will NOT regret it!) Doing a night hike in the jungle and a panga ride the following day while getting to see animals like monkeys, piranah, arapaima and more in the wild were incredibly cool. The waterfall hike and swimming were a perfect way to wrap up an amazing 4 days before heading back to Quito.
Santiago took lots of pictures and videos of me and shared them so I could share with family and friends. He was knowledgeable about recent and ancient history, and an excellent driver. I've already recommended this trip to several friends!
