We didn’t know what to expect as we had never been to Africa! Tanzania vastly exceeded our expectations, mainly due to our seamless 3-week tour with Taswira Africa Safaris. Without their expertise, planning and delightful company we would never have been able to do it. I’ve lost count of the number of animals we saw, from the ‘big five’ to numerous colourful birds … lions, cheetahs, wildebeest, Thompson gazelles, zebra, giraffe and lots of elephants especially in Tarangire - even a very shy leopard asleep in a tree. The northern circuit takes in Serengeti, Tarangire, Ngorongoro Crater and Arusha. We loved them all and it was certainly due to the experience of our guides George, Johnson and Halpha that we were able to do so much … so a big shoutout to them! This was no drive in a game park, but rather an informative and insightful view of the fragile eco-system and natural balance of the wildlife that live there. One of the highlights was being able to see the ‘Great Migration’ in the northern Serengeti, our guides were able to find us a perfect vantage-point to witness an extraordinary event when thousands upon thousands of wildebeest accompanied by several thousand zebra leap into the fast running waters of the Mara River on their annual trek south - the noise, the dust, fear of the fast running water and avoidance of the ever hungry crocodiles all add to the event. Exhilarating would be an understatement! As soon as we stepped off the plane we started planning our return to Africa - we have such terrific memories of our time with Taswira Africa.
