    A very important and emotional spot that gives goosebumps to every Romanian. Learn about the Romanian gulag, the cruel dictator Nicolae Ceausescu and how difficult was the life in the '80s for the local people. Travel in time back to the 22nd December 1989 when shootings took place and many innocent people died facing Securitatea (the secret police). This place represents a symbolic end for the communist regime in Romania. Discover how it happened.

My partner and I had an absolutely fantastic time on the Darkside Tour of Bucharest! From start to finish, Elena was an outstanding guide. She's an engaging storyteller who weaves history, folklore, and her own insights together so beautifully. We especially appreciated the generosity she showed in sharing parts of her own life and family history, it made the stories feel alive and deeply personal, rather than just facts and dates. Walking through Bellu Cemetery was a highlight, with Elena bringing each monument to life through vivid anecdotes and just the right dash of humour. And of course, the best grave is yet to come - the world is definitely owed Elena’s “lady eaten by her cats” memorial, haha! If you’re looking for a tour that’s thoughtful, full of personality, and makes Bucharest’s past feel immediate and human, I can’t recommend this one enough. Thank you, Elena, for such a memorable and truly enjoyable experience!

Spending time with Vlad in Bucharest was truly a highlight of our trip. He’s such a kind, warm, and genuine person that it felt less like being on a tour and more like exploring the city with a friend. What impressed us most was how much he knows - not only about Romania’s communist history and the city itself, but also the hidden stories and little secrets about Bucharest’s well-known citizens. Even though we knew almost nothing about Romania before, he made everything so interesting and easy to connect with. Another thing that stood out is how easily Vlad connects with people. He has guided visitors from all over the world, and you can really feel that experience in the way he adapts to different backgrounds and makes everyone feel included. What we especially appreciated was how curious he was about our own country, Poland - he asked thoughtful questions and was genuinely interested, which made our conversations flow naturally and go much deeper. It’s rare to meet someone who can share history in such a personal way, while also being so open to learning from the people he guides. The time just flew by. In fact, Vlad ended up spending two extra hours with us, simply because he was so passionate about sharing his city. We never once felt like he was watching the clock, and that made the experience even more special. We left not only with a deeper understanding of Bucharest, but also with a real appreciation for the person guiding us. Vlad is the best! You can’t miss the tour with him!

This was an excellent tour and Alex was an exceptional tour guide. We both feel like we have been left with a much better understanding of Romania and the history of it's people, and visited and seen places we would never have found on our own. Would 100% recommend
