We were picked up from our hotel in Dubai at 7.40am and returned at 9pm. This is a very very long day. A small bus drops you to a bigger bus for a 9am departure. The bus was old, noisy and very poor quality. The driver was frightening and at times seemed distracted both on the way and the way back. At one point we got pushed off the main highway and another time the driver almost lost control of the vehicle. While we really enjoyed visiting the mosque and the ‘Louvre’, the visit to the Yas Mall was a waste of time and the lunch was very average. The mosque is a very commercial affair, with the entrance down an escalator into a mall of shops including Starbucks! It takes a long time to get through the lines and security and take a ‘patience’ chill pill, as you have to wait while people in your group disappear to the bathroom or to buy headscarves etc. The mosque is undoubtedly beautiful and absolutely worth seeing. The louvre is also a very interesting place, partly due to the design of the building, some of the artefacts are rather dull and disjointed in order of relevance but overall, an interesting experience. The nail biting bus ride back to Dubai took around 75 minutes. We got to Dubai at 6pm. We then alighted to a smaller bus to go back to our hotel and this took 3 hours when we almost lost the will to live. 3 groups were dropped off before us and we also had the pleasure of our driver being involved in an accident with another driver, adding an extra 30 minutes to a very very tedious end of day. The Dubai traffic was horrendous and it felt as if we were driving around the city over and over again looking for people’s hotels. If you can afford to hire a private driver for the day, definitely avoid this trip. The commentary through the headphones was grating and out of date. Come on Viator, you really need to lift your game.
