Akshardham Temple Tour Exhibition, Light & Water Show with Transfers

The guide and driver were on time - and I was informed of the details day prior ! Thats the most and guide took pride and was respectful. Thats the good part ! However the tour was for the temple and included the exhibition/ ride/ lightshow - the highlights . Guide was poorly informed of the time needed for this and took too much time showing structures, that led to missing most of exhibition/ show ! also if you dont know their language- Hindi- the exhibition/ show is a waste of time , as no translation is provided !! The tour itinerary conveniently doesnt inform of the language barrier and guide doesnt accompany the exhibit/ shows to help translate ! Overall waste of time and on reaching out - company doesnt take ownership !!

TO be quite honest I walked out of here not entirely sure about what I'd seen. Yes, it was a temple tour, but it was in a style I hadn't come across before. This one came complete with all modern bells and whistles, previous reviewers having been correct in saying that there was more than a little of the Disney razmattaz about what they'd seen. I paid just over £2 entry fee and myself and four other English-speaking tourists then made our way through a series of staged scene sets with high class animatronics roughly chronicling the life of Swaminarayan with an emphasis on Hindu culture. There was even a film showing his exploits and the miracles he performed. It was very well done but lost true appreciation among my group after a series of announcements claiming that ancient India was basically responsible for discovering everything up to and including the secrets of nuclear power. That challenged credibility among my little group who became sceptical. It didn't really matter if we took things with a pinch of salt because the huge Indian-speaking audiences ahead of us in the rotation of shows were fascinated and loved it all. There was even a "subterranean" cultural boat ride through everything from a village to the gods and I'm bound to say the presentation was very dynamic and eye-catching. What there can be no doubt about is the quality of the workmanship and carving shown in the temple which was wonderful. I'd love to show you all some photos but cameras and phones were strictly banned everywhere we went, so you'll have to do what I did....and boost the souvenir shop takings by buying a book of photographs of the temple. At the risk of a pun involving George Orwell, all photographers are banned....but some are less banned than others! I have no hesitation in recommending fellow travellers to pay a visit to this temple, but they should try and keep focussed on reality and not get sucked into the "spin" which is a gentle if persistent feature of the whole experience.
